Service recipients may drop off electronic waste at Burrtec’s yard between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month.

It is illegal to dispose of garbage and bulky items, such as furniture, appliances and tires in front of a home, business, alleyway, or on the street.

Bulky Items are large items which do not fit in a regular collection container and require special handling due to their size but can be collected and transported without the assistance of special loading equipment (such as forklifts or cranes) and without violating vehicle load limits. It does not include abandoned automobiles and other vehicles, nor does it include items defined as Exempt Waste.

Discarded white goods
Furniture
Tires
Carpet cut in 4′ rolls
Mattresses (Must be wrapped in plastic)

Collection
Burrtec offers free scheduled collection of bulky items for City residents. Please schedule at least 48 hours prior to collection day. Residents are entitled to collection of three (3) large items or ten (10) 32-gallon bags up to four (4) times per calendar year. For subsequent collections in any calendar year, fees may apply.

• Residents must check in at the office first. Proof of residence and identification required.
• Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• The third Saturday of each month between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m
• No household hazardous waste (HHS) or construction and demolition debris will be accepted.

Disposal of Scrap Metal

Home generated sharps, such as needles, syringes, and lancets shall be placed in a sharps container and removed from the regular waste stream to minimize exposure to workers and processors.

To ensure sharps are handled in an appropriate manner, Burrtec shall provide, upon request, the following to each single-family service recipient:

• Residents
  • One postage-paid mail-back sharps container per year at no additional cost
• Seniors
  • Two postage-paid mail-back sharps containers per year at no additional cost

To request a home compost bin, please click the “Request Services” button below.

Burrtec will distribute up to 500 home compost bins per calendar year, to residents who wish to compost organic waste at home. The compost bins are available upon request; while supplies last each year.

This discount is available to any service account holder and/or head of household that occupies the service address, meets the requirements below, and demonstrates qualification through appropriate documentation.

• 60 years of age or older; or
• A person of low, lower, or extremely low income, and enrolled in a discounted utility program

Become a “Recycling All-Star!”

Burrtec will provide annual recognition to participants meeting program standards. Randomly selected participants are eligible to receive recognition at a November City Council meeting.
