| Cliff Long Huron, OH | Hello fellow VW Airdales. Just revisiting this web and saw a comment regarding the EC-121K model of the super connie and just wanted to record my recollected thoughts. I was on Crew 4 flying with Capt. Bunce and we had an aircraft modified with the sono buoy launcher at the rear exit door that we swung out to launch the buoys. The buoys we stored in a rack nearby. The electronics (sono buoy receivers, nav station mods etc.) completed the ASW version mods. I was under the impression that that mod made the connie an EC-121P. the "P" version was never officially made it as an aicraft version. If I can remember which aircraft we modified (BUNO), I will pass that info and Phots on some time in the near future. I remember fying the ASW mission during an Atlantic ASW exercise.We were the crew training with "expert" ASW aviators from the Royal Canadian navy on board It would be great to hear from some of the folks I flew with. . 11/13/2015 @ 07:46 [ref: 69315] |

| William T. Voigt, ADR3 Old Saybrook, CT | I was attached to VW 11 from the end of January 1964 to the end of August 1965 assigned to the flight line. I spent most of my time in Keflavik Iceland as what was famously call "a ground pounder". I made on some of the liberty runs to Scotland and once in a while to other country's. those were some of the most memorial days of my short Naval Career. | Merlin Allshouse hillsdale, MI | I was in VW-11 September 1964-September 1965 it was my first squradon also.I flew on Capt Bunce crew as a Flight Tech.I flew on the last barrier flight on August 26,i965.I was cross rating at that time.I was a SW/AT1 , Captain said prove yourself on my crew and you can move onto other crews.But we decommissioned before I could move onto another crew.I lived out in Freshwater with my wife and 2 childern.We enjoyed our time in Newfoundland.I also enjoyed flying in the EC-121.Maybe someone will remember the time the plane fill up with smoke and the hetic time it was till we found out a power supply burned up on one of the scope's. | Marcus LEE Primm Westminster, MD | VW-11 was my first squadron. I reported to Argentia in early January of 1965 and flew with Captain Larry Bunce, as did Cliff Long(see earlier entry). I guess we just missed each other. I was a navigator and learned quickly that celestial navigation was real and necessary during those long flights around Newfoundland and Iceland. I was 1st Teck on the VW-2 flying the next to last North Atlantic Barrier. VW-11 was given the honor of flying the last North Atlantic Barrier.
